Scholarship Program
The Scholarship Program aims to alleviate the financial burdens Guatemalan families face in sending their children to school. Carmen de Alvarado of 32 Volcanes has been working with families and students for decades. Scholarship donations help cover essential costs such as books, registration fees, transportation, school supplies, uniforms, and, in some cases, tuition. The Guatemalan school year and scholarship disbursements begin in January.
Parents of scholarship students remain involved in their children’s education in part by attending monthly meetings with 32 Volcanes. These meetings also offer informal educational opportunities for the parents.
The Scholarship Program currently supports over 100 primary, secondary, and university students from diverse communities in and around Quetzaltenango, including Llanos del Pinal, San Juan Ostuncalco, Xeabaj II, and Cantel.​
Most scholarships are just $170/year. 32 Volcanes offers larger scholarships to students facing substantial expenses, particularly those who incur high transportation costs due to living in communities without middle or high schools, as well as university students.
